Journal History

The first issue of scientific and technical "Russian Railway Science Journal" was published 80 years ago, in January 1942. Its original name - "Railways Technics" was kept up until 1956.

Appearance of the journal in severe wartime evidenced extreme importance that the government gave to the development of rail transport. It is due to railways, connected among themselves main economic regions of the country, where were evacuated large industrial enterprises, the integrity of all-nation economic complex would maintain and there was a continuous supply of military equipment and weapons. 

At the origin of appearance of our journal there were the most prominent scientists of the Institute: Member of the Academy of Sciences T.S. Khachaturov and academician S.P. Syromyatnikov. In subsequent years, the journal activities was directed by actively working of International Advisory board of such scientists as prof. A.V. Slomyansky, N.I. Belokon, A.F. Zolotarsky, B.N. Tikhmenev, N.F. Penkin, A.P. Petrov, E.D. Feldman, M.I. Vakhnin, N.P. Shchapov,  A.T. Deribas, N.A. Vorobyev, V.F. Baraboshin, T.A. Tibilov, A.A. Dolmatov, A.L. Lisitsyn and others.

Traditionally, the advisory team of the journal (and later advisory council) headed by Directors of the Institute: General Director of traction of the first rank V.V. Kurochkin, I.A. Ivanov, A.D. Karetnikov, B.D. Nikiforov, later A.L. Lisitsyn, I.S. Besedin, B.M. Lapidus.

In complicated current economic terms the journal has managed to remain popular scientific publication, on which pages are reflected the most recent important directions of development of railway transport.

It is visually provided by the extensive subject of publications including such priority directions of scientific researches as: safety transportation and reliability of infrastructure of railway transport, development of rapid and high-speed transport, creation of railway vehicles of new generation and upgrade existing, development of heavy haul transport, container and intermodal transports, search and application of alternative energy sources, power - and resource-saving policy, management information technologies of organization of transportation process, satellite and geoinformation technologies, increase of ecological compatibility of railway transport, development of competitive tariff policy, and also many other, reflecting innovative transformations of industries.

Author's composition of the journal includes not only domestic but also foreign scientists and experts from the CIS countries and abroad.

Throughout the period of its existence, the journal tries to keep up with the times, with the rapidly evolving technological advances and tendencies of reflection scientific thought in the global space of scientific and technical information.

Advisory office of the journal "Russian Railway Science" expresses the gratitude to all its authors, reviewers, scientific consultants for long-term joint fruitful activities which, we are sure, further will help to fill the magazine with fresh creative ideas and the best practices.

Advisory council invites scientists and specialists of Railway Research Institute, and also other scientific, project and educational organizations of the industry to more active participate in discussion on pages of the journal about actual problems of development of railway transport.

We recommend using possibilities of our edition more full on advertising of finished scientific researches, design developments, patents and inventions which can be of interest both for domestic and foreign reader. 

According to numerous requests from our readers in the "History" section archival issues of the magazine will be placed, starting with the 40-ies of the last century.
